The American Express 2022

The PGA Tour is headed to California for the first event of the season that will be played in the continental United States, The American Express, which is played on 3 separate courses in La Quinta. Golfers will rotate between the courses until Sunday, when golf will be played only at Pete Dye’s Stadium Course. Each course plays a bit differently and we have adjusted our model accordingly. This week, we will focus more on strokes gained on approach, greens in regulation, strokes gained off the tee, birdie or better scoring, and strokes gained putting. The weather is expected to be warm, with little wind and no real issues to be concerned about. Weather is always a factor and subject to change, so checking DFS lineups closer to lock will be crucial. In this post, we use our full set of metrics and highlight some of our favorite golfers in the competition:

John Rahm ($11,300-DK; +500 to win)

By far, Rahm is our top cash play on the slate. Rahm last played this event in 2019, when he finished in sixth. A year before that, in 2018, he won.

Taylor Gooch ($9,700-DK; +2000 to win)

Gooch is another one of our top cash plays this week. He has played this event four times and has never missed a cut. He has also finished top-25 in each of the last 3 years.

Seamus Power ($9,500-DK; +2800 to win)

For the third straight week, we like Power. His price has skyrocketed since the start of the season. We plan to lock Power into our builds in all formats.
