3M Open 2021

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

The PGA Tour returns to the United States this week for the 3M Open held at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. Although the course is in the mid-west, there will be plenty of water for golfers to play around. There are 27 water hazards on the course, which is the most on Tour this season. The course also features wide fairways, but with deep, overgrown rough. We will focus on driving accuracy over driving distance this week. We also expect plenty of birdies on this course and will target such golfers.

The weather is expected to be very warm, but dry and with little win. Temperatures are expected to be in the high 90s on each day. Our key stat to focus on this week will be strokes gained off the tee and will lean more towards accuracy than distance. We will also look at birdie scoring, par 4 scoring, and bentgrass putting. In this post, we use our full set of metrics and highlight some of our favorite golfers in the competition:

Dustin Johnson ($11,300-DK; +700 to win)

DJ has not played his best golf lately, but still finds himself as the favorite to win this event for the second consecutive year. Johnson stands out in our model as an elite birdie scorer.

Emiliano Grillo ($9,300-DK; +1400 to win)

Grillo is our absolute favorite golfer this weekend, ranking in the top 5 of all of our key metrics in this event. We will be using Grillo in every format and would pick him to finish high. (Final bet will be in our Game Picks section!)

Adam Schenk ($7,900-DK; +10000 to win)

Schenk is an excellent ball-striker who finished 4th at the John Deere Classic. At this sub-8k price, Schenk is a solid cash game option for the weekend,

Jhonattan Vegas ($7,500-DK; +6500 to win)

Vegas is a golfer who like to pick most weeks. He has been in great form and excels both at striking and par 4 scoring. We like Vegas as a cash game play on DK.

Chez Reavie ($7,400-DK; +7000 to win)

This will be Reavie’s first trip to TPC Twin Cities on the Tour, but he has played very well lately, making 5 of his last 6 cuts. Reavie is excellent off the tee, especially with driving accuracy. We will have some exposure on DK.

B Hoag ($7,100-DK; +13000 to win)

Hoag could be a popular play this week, but with good reason. He is in excellent form and ranks high among the field in approach.

J Dufner ($6,600-DK; +20000 to win)

Digging very deep for value, we like Dufner who is 2 for 2 making the cut at this event in the past. He is also in excellent form lately and could sneak into the top 20.
