FBB Weekly Edge Report: September 7 - 13

Welcome back to another edition of the our Fantasy Baseball Weekly Edge Report, where we break down everything you need to know for the upcoming week of season-long fantasy baseball.

We're officially entering the final few weeks of the fantasy baseball season, which means every at-bat, stolen base, and counting stat becomes increasingly important. With the fantasy playoffs either underway or right around the corner, now is the time to maximize playing time, exploit favorable matchups, and stay aggressive on the waiver wire.

And before we get into this week's report, we want to wish everyone a Happy Labor Day Weekend! Hopefully you're able to enjoy some baseball, some time with family and friends, and maybe a few days away from the fantasy grind. Once the weekend is over, though, it's time to lock in for the final stretch.

🗺️ Schedule Breakdown

One of the easiest ways to create an advantage in weekly leagues is by simply getting more plate appearances. This week, we have just two teams slated to play seven games, while every other team is scheduled for six.

👉 Remember: A seven-game schedule represents roughly a 17% increase in opportunity compared to a six-game week. At this point in the season, those extra plate appearances can make a real difference in the standings.

The Braves and Phillies are the clear schedule winners this week. Both teams play seven games, and both get four games against each other over the weekend after opening the week with three games against other opponents.

For weekly leagues, that makes everyday hitters from both lineups particularly appealing. The schedule volume alone gives players like Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and the rest of these lineups an extra opportunity to accumulate runs, RBIs, home runs, and other counting stats.

🌦️Weather Notes

September weather brings a noticeable transition away from the extreme heat of the summer, with temperatures beginning to moderate across much of the country. That can reduce some of the offensive boost we saw earlier in the season, but warmer conditions will still be present in plenty of hitter-friendly environments. Managers in weekly leagues should continue leaning into hitters when deciding between closely ranked options.

As always, scattered thunderstorms remain the biggest concern this time of year. Afternoon and evening storms can create delays or postponement risks throughout the Midwest and East Coast, while many West Coast games should enjoy much more stable conditions. Be sure to monitor forecasts later in the week before setting daily lineups, particularly if you're relying on fringe pitchers or streaming options.

🔥 Top Stacks to Target

Here are a few teams that are in favorable spots for the upcoming week:

⚾ Atlanta Braves (@ PHI, vs TB, vs PHI)

The Braves are our favorite stack of the week, and the seven-game schedule is a major reason why. Atlanta opens the week with a game in Philadelphia before returning home for a three-game series against Tampa Bay. They then finish the week with three more games against the Phillies.

Atlanta enters September as one of baseball's best teams, sitting near the top of the National League with 653 runs scored and an impressive +118 run differential through September 2. The Braves have also been one of the hottest teams in baseball over the past few weeks.

With seven games and several opportunities for the middle of the lineup to rack up plate appearances, this is a great week to keep Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, Michael Harris II, Austin Riley, and Sean Murphy locked into fantasy lineups.

⚾ Philadelphia Phillies (vs ATL, vs HOU, @ ATL)

The Phillies are the other obvious team to target this week. Like Atlanta, Philadelphia gets seven games, with four of those contests coming against the Braves.

Philadelphia has been one of the hottest teams in baseball recently, going 21-7 during August and entering September firmly in the NL playoff race. Bryce Harper in particular has been outstanding, carrying a lengthy on-base streak into the final month of the season.

The matchups aren't necessarily perfect, but volume matters enormously this late in the season. Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and the rest of Philadelphia's everyday bats should be treated as strong plays in weekly leagues simply because of the opportunity they'll receive.

⚾ New York Yankees (vs COL, @ NYM)

The Yankees are our favorite six-game stack of the week. New York opens with three games against Colorado before finishing the week with a three-game Subway Series against the Mets.

The Rockies have struggled badly this season, while the Yankees have one of the highest-scoring offenses in baseball, entering September with 636 runs scored and a +115 run differential. The first half of the week provides an especially appealing opportunity for New York's power hitters.

The Yankees don't have the seven-game volume that Atlanta and Philadelphia do, but the combination of offensive talent and the opening series against Colorado gives their everyday hitters plenty of upside.

🎯Waiver Wire Targets

We always want to be aggressive on the waiver wire. With September roster expansion now underway, this is especially important because several intriguing prospects have already received opportunities at the major-league level.

⚾ Walker Jenkins, 50% owned, is our top priority if he's somehow still available. The highly regarded Twins outfielder received his MLB promotion before the September 1 roster expansion and is exactly the type of high-upside player fantasy managers should be targeting during the playoff push. Jenkins has already generated plenty of fantasy interest because of his combination of hitting ability, power, and athleticism.

⚾ Lazaro Montes, 25% owned, is another exciting September addition. The Mariners promoted Montes and he immediately made an impact, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs in his MLB debut against Boston. Seattle is reportedly interested in giving the left-handed hitter near-regular playing time, which makes him particularly interesting in deeper leagues.

⚾ Ethan Salas, 15% owned, is worth a speculative add in leagues where catching help is needed. The Padres promoted the 20-year-old catcher on September 1, and he brings significant prospect pedigree to a San Diego team fighting for a playoff spot. Salas hit .326 with three home runs and 24 RBIs in 24 Triple-A games before his promotion, giving him plenty of offensive upside if he receives regular opportunities.

⚾ Yohandy Morales, 5% owned, is our deeper-league target. Morales joined Washington at the start of September after hitting 25 home runs with an .882 OPS at Triple-A. He also homered in his MLB debut, showing exactly why his raw power makes him interesting for fantasy managers searching for late-season upside. Playing time could be inconsistent, but the power makes him worth a look in deeper formats.

🧠 Final Thoughts

The fantasy baseball playoffs are here, and at this point in the season, volume is king. The Braves and Phillies stand out with seven-game schedules, while the Yankees get a favorable matchup against Colorado to begin the week. If you're choosing between comparable hitters, give the edge to the players who are going to be on the field the most.

👉 Remember: This is also the time of year to be aggressive. Don't be afraid to move on from a struggling veteran for a player who is seeing everyday at-bats, and don't overlook September call-ups who could provide a short-term spark. With the playoff races tightening and teams fighting for every win, playing time can change quickly, so staying active on the waiver wire is more important than ever.
