NFL DFS: Week 1

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

NFL Football is back! Each week, we will break down the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) main slate for the weekend on both Draft Kings and FanDuel. Let’s get right to it:

Quarterback:

Patrick Mahomes (DK-$8,100; FD-$8,100) – It should be no surprise that Mahomes projects to be the top-scoring QB this weekend, even against a strong defense like Cleveland For this weekend, the Chiefs have the highest projected point total.

Kyler Murray (DK-$7,600; FD-$8,400) – We consider Murray a very safe play this weekend largely due to his ability to gain yards on the ground, but also thanks to the weak Titans secondary. He is way too cheap on DK.

Runningback:

Christian McCaffrey (DK-$9,500: FD-$10,400) – CMC is not only the best RB in DFS, but also our highest projected player on the slate. For week 1, he gets to face a weak Jets team that is expected to trail most of the game. This is easy chalk.

James Robinson (DK-$6,400; FD-$5,900) – Robinson became another chalky play after the Jags lost Travis Etiene for the season with a foot injury. Week 1 pricing was released long before the news. Expect high ownership here.

Wide Receiver:

Devante Adams (DK-$8,300; FD-$8,600) – Adams is our top projected WR on the slate. We know Aaron Rodgers likes to look his way a ton, especially in the red zone. Expect Adams to see the ball often.

DeAndre Hopkins (DK-$7,800 ; FD-$8,200) – As we mentioned, the Titans struggle defending the pass, which should provide one of the most talented WRs in the game with plenty of opportunity on this slate. From a pricing standpoint, it will be hard to beat Hopkins’ upside.

Marquez Callaway (DK-$3,400; FD-$5,200) – Callaway is an absolute steal down near min price as the Saints WR1 for Week 1. This Saints team, which was already thin at WR, will be without their top guy Michael Thomas, leaving Callaway as the expected top target.

Tight End:

Travis Kelce (DK-$8,300; FD-$8,500) – Kelce is the most expensive TE in the field, but he is well worth this price tag. For cash games, it will be hard to find a safer play.

Kyle Pitts (DK-$4,400; FD-$6,000) – It is much less clear what Pitts’ role will be for Week 1, but we know the uber-talented rookie should fit nicely into this Atlanta offense that likes getting the TE involved. At his low price on DK, Pitts could be worth a look.

Defense/Special Teams:

Carolina Panthers (DK-$3,600; FD-$4,100) – Especially in the early weeks of the season, it is usually wise to play defenses against rookie QBs. Carolina will face rookie Zach Wilson in his regular season debut in a game that they are expected to win.

New York Giants (DK-$3,800; FD-$3,700) – Too many people are rolling with the Broncos here. Last season, defenses playing against DEN ranked among the best in the league. Do not overlook this Giants defense playing at home in front of a crowd for the first time in two years.
